Your pre-departure checklist
Essential โ Before booking
โ
British passport valid 3+ months from your entry date, with 1+ blank page
Morocco's validity rule is shorter than many destinations (3 months, not 6) โ but still worth checking properly rather than assuming you're covered.
โ
Passport in genuinely good condition
Moroccan authorities have denied entry over damage that other countries wouldn't even question โ even minor cover or page damage. Check yours properly before you fly.
Before you fly
โ
Proof of onward or return travel
Can be requested at the border โ keep your return ticket accessible, even though it's rarely an issue for straightforward tourist trips.
โ
Travel insurance
Not a formal entry requirement, but worthwhile โ private medical care for visitors in Morocco is billed directly.
โ
Money that works in dirhams
UK cards typically add ~3% forex fees. A multi-currency card helps, and Morocco is broadly card-friendly in cities, cash-preferred in smaller towns and markets.
On arrival
โ
Make sure your passport is visibly stamped at immigration
This is the single most important step on this route. A missed or unclear stamp can cause real, serious problems when leaving the country โ check it before you walk away from the immigration desk.
โ
Keep track of your 90-day limit if staying long-term
It's a single-entry allowance โ there's no automatic reset by leaving and re-entering. Plan around the actual 90 days, not an assumed renewable window.
โ
Need to stay longer than 90 days? Apply for a residence card in-country
A "carte de sรฉjour" is the formal route for longer stays โ arrange this before your 90 days run out to avoid overstay fines.
Mistakes that catch Brits out
Not checking for a visible entry stamp. With no e-visa or digital record to fall back on, your physical passport stamp is the only proof you entered legally โ a missed stamp has genuinely caused travellers serious trouble leaving the country.
Assuming the 3-month passport rule is the same as other destinations. Many UK travellers are used to checking for 6 months โ Morocco's rule is shorter, but it's still worth actually checking rather than assuming you're automatically fine.
Travelling with a damaged passport. Minor wear that wouldn't raise an eyebrow in many countries has led to real entry refusals in Morocco โ check the condition properly, not just the expiry date.
Assuming you can "reset" the 90 days with a quick border hop. It's a single-entry allowance per visit โ leaving and coming back doesn't automatically grant a fresh 90-day period the way some other countries' rules work.
